Food Memories!: Summer 2010

I've been doing A LOT of eating people!  Here's a little visual trip down food memory lane on some yummy bites you didn't see on the blog...think of it as my virtual daydream ;)

Naturally Purple Taro Rolls from the Polynesian Cultural Center In Hawaii...the color is so pretty, but that's as unique as it gets...the Taro Rolls actually just taste like regular bread rolls!

Possibly my favorite cocktail of all time!  The spicy/sweet Chilli Passion Caipirinha from the pool at the Mondrian South Beach.  It's packed with Fresh passion fruit, limes, Hawaiian sugar, Siracha spice & Leblon Cachaça stirred with flaked ice...so good!!

The cutest sushi ever from the Fishlips Food Truck in LA!  GREAT quality at such reasonable prices!

Salmon Robata Skewers w/ Scallions & Korean Miso Honey from the Ahn-Joo Korean Snack Bar Truck in LA...trust me, after tasting this, you're going to want to order another asap!

Imagine the food when this is what you get at the salad bar...yes, I did say salad bar at Fogo de Chao.  Eat your heart out with Smoked Salmon, Caprese Salad, Thick Strips of Bacon, Gourmet Cheeses, Prosciutto, Salami...and the list goes on!

Thick and cheesy "Grandma" slice from the Slice Truck in LA.

There's nothing like eating Coconut Shrimp in Hawaii!  The Shrimp at Grass Skirt Grill on Oahu's North Shore was absolutely AMAZING and I love that everything is fresh...I mean what do you expect, the ocean was only a few feet away!

One of my favorite things to order for lunch!  The Shrimp & Avocado Wrap from Sagebrush Cantina in Calabasas.  So simple...blackened shrimp (the flavor is insane!), avocado, tomatoes, spring greens, and the best Chipotle-Ranch dressing!  For some reason, Sagebrush took this off of their darn menu!  WHY!...but they'll still make it for you, just ask for the Shrimp & Avocado Wrap the "old" way...most of the girls will know what you're talking about ;)

Tiramisù “Valentino” with White Chocolate and Frangelico from Valentino at the Venetian in Las Vegas.  This is the first Tiramisu that I actually enjoyed...I liked that it wasn't so heavy on the espresso flavor.

Ooey Gooey Chocolate filled doughnuts w/ Coconut Gelato and Vanilla & Chocolate Sauce from Valentino Las Vegas.  Love it!  When you break open the doughnut...warm chocolate spills out!

Layers of Cake and Icing in the Chocolate & Vanilla "Cup Cake" from Sweets Truck in LA.  This one will definitely curb your sweet tooth...plus, no mess!

Ginger Peach Cobbler w/ Cling Peaches, Raspberries, and the ultra refreshing Cilantro Lime Gelato from Mie N Yu in Georgetown Washington, DC.

Salted Caramel Ice Cream from Delphine in Hollywood.  I loved it so much, I had to order an extra on the side...and they even gave me a chic little cookie to eat with it (gold wrapper)!

Those that have tried this will agree...this is the absolute best cupcake on earth!!! (Someone even dubbed it Wedding Cake worthy!)  It's seasonal for June only...so expect to gain a few lb's that month!  Susie Cake's ToDieFor Strawberry White Chocolate Cupcake w/ Strawberries baked into the moist vanilla cake and topped with creamy White Chocolate Butter Cream...I want one NOW!

Fitting that Hawaii would hold the best Mochi!  I'm so landlocked with the usual Chocolate/Strawberry/Mango/Green Tea same ol' Mochi that I was blown away with the amount of Mochi options available at Bubbies in Honolulu!  Flavors like: Guava, Passion Fruit, Chocolate covered Strawberry, Pistachio, Azuki Bean, Chocolate Mint, Lychee and many more..I think I asked my cousin Jazzmin to take me back to Bubbies every day I was there visiting!

Life is definitely just a little bit sweeter with great food ;)

  1. tres interesting. you samples 3 trucks I vowed to never partake: Slice / Fishlips / Ahn Jooe. Knowing trucks are lousy kitchens, I can't imagine 1) getting a re-heated slice from a truck probably not outfitted with a proper deck oven 2) eating sushi while standing, in LA's busy streets 3) sampling overpriced Korean "fusion" food while standing when I can make 90% of that in my own kitchen. Kudos to you tho; and the Hawaii entries look fantastic!
