TART Restaurant (Los Angeles): Super Meaty Corned Beef Hash & KILLER Grits!!

Had an amazing weekend! I joined my girls Alexis and Francette for brunch on Saturday at the super cute TART restaurant on Fairfax. Such a charming little place! I can't believe this was my 1st time eating here! It reminds me of institution restaurants in the South...you just feel like there's a little granny in the back putting extra love into all the yummy food! I'm sure being adjacent to the Farmers Daughter boutique hotel only adds to TART's charm (you can admire the hotel's unique country kitsch decor if you dine on the patio...I loved it! The surroundings completely transport you to a simpler time. You would never guess the hustle and bustle of The Grove is right across the street!)

ON TO THE FOOD!!!

For anyone that knows me...I am OBSESSED with iced tea! It is almost always my drink of choice when I dine...any meal, anytime. TART has incredible passion fruit iced tea (!)...the best way I can describe it is that it has a sort of cotton candy after taste...every sip makes me smile!!

After going over the entire menu, I decided to go for one of my childhood favorites...Corned Beef Hash. (This was probably my Dad's favorite thing to make us for breakfast as kids, and even though it was the canned version...I couldn't have been happier. Canned corned beef w/ eggs was heaven to me!) As an adult, I've had corned beef hash at several restaurants and for the most part...they stick to a slightly modified version of the mushy tiny potatoes and bits of meat mixture (you might see a new herb or 2 thrown in there but...come on, I could have made this at home!) TART's version was a complete 180! This was the meat lovers corned beef hash for sure!! The large, melt-in-your-mouth chunks of real corned beef were insane!...mixed in with hearty chunks of potatoes, bell peppers, and onions with 3 eggs on top (omg!!)...this was a corned beef lovers dream!

What blew me away most at TART was, surprisingly, their grits!! Anyone that has grown up in/visited/or knows someone from the South that cooks should know what good grits taste like. Such a simple food but it's very hit or miss and most restaurants/people don't know what they're doing. Well take it from 3 girls that grew up in the south...these grits were KILLER!!!!!! The creamy grits were ToDieFor but they also added in small pieces of bacon, green onion (!!!) I couldn't believe that Los Angeles could produce such perfect grits! Alexis and I had to order an extra side of them since they didn't come w/ our meals...we had grit envy!

Very successful brunch!! I am officially a TART fan!
